10 Best Thyme Perfumes

10 Best Thyme Perfumes

Known as thyme, a small subshrub belonging to the Lamiaceae family, it is evergreen, small, and densely branched. It has four angular, woody stems with stiff, thick stems. The leaves of thyme are small, narrowly elliptical, leathery, and curled. The Best Thyme Perfumes have delicately sweet, herbal, spicy, and citrus notes that make it a perfect choice for those looking for a distinctive scent.

Usually rusty-reddish on the underside, they grow opposite on short petioles. The thyme flowers appear at the end of May on top of shoots. They are small, arranged in capitate inflorescences, reminiscent of whirls. This plant blooms from late May to late October. It often has pink, purple, or white flowers. The fruit of this plant is small and black-brown.

About Thyme Fragrances

Originally from the Mediterranean region, thyme is grown almost throughout Europe, North America and northern Africa. As a spice and medicine plant, thyme has been used since ancient times. Sources indicate that it was believed to fight plagues that raged throughout Europe in the 15th century.

During World War I, thyme oil was used as an antiseptic and pain reliever to treat infections. Beer and thyme soup was believed to be an antidote to shyness and a positive effect on nervous disorders, such as nightmares. Thyme was also believed to affect a range of nervous disorders positively.

Aside from essential oil, thyme contains tannins, flavonoids (like luteolin, apigenin, and their glycosides), polyphenolic acids (coffee, chlorogenic), triterpene acids (such as ursolic acid and oleanolic acid), bitterness, saponins, mineral salts, and triterpene acids. Currently, thyme’s raw material is its fresh or dried leaves, although it is rarely used as its entire aboveground part in cooking, medicine, and cosmetics.

As it has a strong smell of thymol, it can give food a distinctive flavor and aroma. This plant has a taste that is sharp to burning and bitter, with a strong aftertaste of cloves.

Many cuisines value thyme as a spice plant, but it is also widely used in Polish and African cuisines. As well as improving the taste of grilled and tomato dishes, lemon thyme pairs well with these products, giving them a slightly different flavor. It is usually added to sauces, veal, beef, pork, fish, soups, or mutton.

Thyme oil is obtained by steam distillation of flowering thyme. It has a colorless or yellowish color and a strong, pungent odor. The oil contains, among others: thymol, carvacrol, cineol, cymene, α-pinene, linalool, linalool acetate, borneol, and bornyl acetate. Thanks to these substances, it has healing properties, including antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant, astringent, digestive aid and anti-worm.

As a result of the ingredients thymol and carvacrol in the oil, it relaxes the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, facilitating, for example, digestion and positively reducing flatulence. Furthermore, the herb helps with asthma, strengthens the nervous system, and relieves diarrhea and colds. The herb relieves coughing and reduces angina, heartburn and blocked throats. When inhaled, thyme oil has an antidepressant effect.

When used against hookworms, roundworms, and nematodes, thyme herb has a calming effect, while a large amount of it has a stimulating effect. Since thyme stimulates mucus secretion in the lungs, it is often used in compressing the lungs in diseases such as asthma, influenza, bronchitis, and mastitis, and washed wounds and insect bites. In addition to being used as a compress, it was also used to treat tired eyes.

Various cosmetic products containing thyme oil are popular in the cosmetic industry, including creams, face tonics, lotions, and bath gels that have anti-blemish properties and help remove skin problems. Herbal masks often contain thyme oil as a component. Combined with other ingredients, it inhibits baldness, strengthens the skin and hair, eliminates dandruff, and strengthens the hair in shampoos and rinses.

Verdict

Depending on the variety of thyme and its use, thyme can provide a fragrance with character and a distinctive aroma, or its notes may be sweet, herbal, spicy, or citrus. The fragrance world often uses thyme from the aromatic or herbal category as an ingredient in various perfumes, including women’s, men’s and unisex fragrances.
